Tips for Learning to Extend Ki

Over the years of training, I've found the following tips to be helpful in learning about how to extend Ki during everyday life. Some will work better for you than others - if one method doesn't work for you, try another. Pay attention to how your body reacts, how you feel, and how you move, while trying the following:

Relax Completely (one of the four basic principles).

Breathe - practice Ki Breathing methods, and ensure that you breathe while performing a technique.

Visualize water flowing from your one point out your fingers and/or toes.

Visualize a beam of light flowing from your finger tips through the wall in front of you.

Visualize a bungee cord, or a rope, 'pulling' your one point forward slightly.

Visualize being part of a river/wave and joining that river or wave as it flows from behind you towards uke, and past uke.

Successfully complete the test or technique in your mind before you start, and let your body follow.

Focus on using as light a touch or grab as possible when working on a technique - use Ki to hold instead of strength.

Relax Completely.

Breathe.
